Short treks near Bangalore

Over the past several months, a few friends and I have utilized some of our weekends to do fun things in and around Bangalore. One of the activities I enjoyed was weekend trekking in Bangalore (short treks from Bangalore).

We usually look for trekking places within 50 km of Bangalore so that we can go early in the morning and be back home by evening.

If you are looking for one-day treks near Bangalore, here are three options:

  • Makalidurga
  • Avalabetta
  • Anthargange

These are all short treks from Bangalore, and they are beginner—to intermediate-level difficulty treks. Though they may not be the best treks near Bangalore, they offer unique experiences.

Makalidurga: Intermediate Difficulty trek

Makalidurga, located 75 km from Bangalore, is an intermediate-level difficulty trek. The trek starts at a Railway Station and leads to a temple devoted to Muthurayaswamy.

The two-kilometer walk from the Railway Station to the temple is an adventure in itself.

Some highlights of the trek include:

  • The temple of Makali Malleshwara on top, surrounded by the fort walls
  • It is a unique experience walking alongside railway tracks
  • View of Gundamagere Lake, the shape of which resembles the continent of South America
  • Ancient ruined fort on the top of the hill

Anthargange: Beginner level trek

Located about 70 km from Bangalore in Kolar district, this three-kilometer trek offers a moderately challenging trail suitable for all. On top of the hill are caves that you can explore.

Avalabetta: Beginner

Avalabetta is located around 90 km from Bangalore.

The trek is about 3 km long and suitable for beginners. On top of the hill is a temple and a few rocks from which you can view the sunrise.

In the comments, let me know if you have done any of these treks and if you have suggestions for one-day treks in and around Bangalore.
